Projects Overview
We operate in diverse areas of Ecuador; in Pedro Moncayo in the northern sierra, in Columbe in the central sierra and in Intag (Cotocachi) in the sub-tropical west (map of Ecuador). Our projects aim at: Sustainable management of natural resources: using focused application, work methodologies and technicians, we work towards the conservation of micro valleys, soils and biodiversity. Improving agricultural and forestry production: from an agroecological focus we drive actions to improve productivity, conserve natural resources and guarantee food supply. We assist in the creation and strengthening of rural small businesses. Local development: through agreements and consensus with the population, with the council and other social figures, local development plans are formulated, executed and evaluated. Training: the FBU has concentrated its efforts on the training of local technicians in subjects such as: agroecology, environmental education, small businesses and institutional development. Our community projects
In the county of Cotacachi integrated farms work toward forest conservation and small business development. These activities are executed by groups of farmers from fourteen communities, in coordination with the municipal of Cotacachi and other NGO's. In Columbe, within a few communities are works for the conservation of soils and recuperation of traditional Andean agricultural products. It is an experience that has achieved high community participation, particularly from the women. Other initiatives We have developed various initiatives related to the management of natural resources and environmental education with both rural and urban populations. They are predicted to continue for some years. |
